Soy wax

Soy wax is a container wax made primarily from hydrogenated soybean oil. It burns cooler than many paraffin blends, has a lower melt point than beeswax, and is popular for container candles because of its smooth, often opaque finish and generally clean burn.

Soy wax accepts fragrance and dye well, but different soy blends can behave differently depending on the exact formulation, so hot throw and cold throw are worth testing rather than assuming. Soy wax is also more prone to visible frosting and wet spots than some other waxes, which are cosmetic quirks rather than defects, though they matter for candles sold with a polished, uniform look.

When buying soy wax, check whether it is a pure soy wax or a soy blend with other waxes added, since blends can shift the melt point and pour temperature the supplier recommends. A common mistake is switching soy wax suppliers mid recipe and assuming the same wick and fragrance load will still perform the same way. Each new soy wax is worth its own test burn.
