Two different risks sit inside candle making and they need separate purchases. The first is heat in your own hands: wax poured at the wrong temperature scalds, and wax left unattended on a burner climbs towards a flash point where it ignites with no flame touching it. That makes a thermometer the actual safety device rather than an accuracy tool, and the pattern that works is a probe around three hundred millimetres long with a clip holding it clear of the base, so the reading is the wax and not the metal. A non contact gun covers what a probe cannot reach, from a pot handle to a mould that looks cool and is not. Under all of it belongs a silicone mat rated for high temperature, where covered area matters more than thickness; a sheet spanning the whole working run catches the drips that otherwise set into a counter, while a thick casting pad takes a pot straight off the heat. The second risk leaves the house with the candle. A container candle needs a warning label on the base, sized to the vessel, so a one and a half inch circle suits tins and small jars while a two or three inch label carries the full text on something large. A care card telling the buyer to trim the wick and respect a burn time does the same job on paper.
